The Launch of Masimelo

This December, Eight was proud to have launched the Masimelo village that boasted a staggering number of registrants being 521 in total constituting 256 adults and 265 children.

In October 2021, Eight launched the first village in DR Congo, Lutala and in under two years, Masimelo made village number three found in the Congolese province of Maniema. The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is affected by poverty: 37% of the population is severely multidimensional poor and 77% of the population lives on less than $1.90 a day.

We hope to share in stories their journey and progress for the two years that the village of Masimelo will be recipient of basic income
