Increase in School Attendance
Being village chairman, Isaac’s responsibility to the community ranges from mere political duties to social responsiblities in ensuring the progress of the community such as the improvement in school attendance due to availability of funds in families due to the unconditional cash transfers.
Israel, the village chairman prior to the cash transfers, often faced a problem of fees payment for his six children. As a butcher, it wasn’t enough to provide his family with a better life. With the introduction of the cash transfers, Israel has been able to be afford the fees for all his six children.
Additionally, he was also able to pay the fees for the treatment of his son who experienced mental illness. With all these positive outcomes, he has also created a savings group for all receiving cash transfers in Kasanga.
With the continued income, Israel hopes to purchase a plot of land in the trading center which he will use for a business opportunity.
