Coffee Professionalization
Professionalization or professionalisation is a social process by which any trade or occupation transforms itself into a true “profession of the highest integrity and competence.” [wikipedia.com]
What then does coffee professionalisation entail for the primarily coffee farmers under the unconditional cash transfer project?
Understanding the framework of operation many of these farmers have been under (informal) whether it is in the methods of coffee farming or the trading aspect is key so as to properly identify and understand the minute details in their process of professionalisation.
Arguably the most remarkable has been the formation of the farmer organisations which fun fact also act as saving groups amongst them.
The farmer organisations have not only promoted unity thus creating a stronger negotiating bloc but additionally led to easier adaptation of newer coffee farming techniques such as better fertilisers and propagation techniques that each and everyone shares with one another.
A ripple effect of this has not only been greater harvests but more earnings leading many to realise just how much can be earned from proper streamlining and co-operation amongst each other.
